How to Organise an Electoral Action Group

July 2, 2012 in Activism, Events, Protest, Support

Thousands of people are organising right now for the National Day of Action, July 14 (J14).

Here are some ideas to help make this an exciting and truly massive event in your Electorate;

#0 If you aren’t a member yet, join this site and get involved!

#1  If you haven’t done so already, find your Electoral Action Group and join in.  Use this group for planning the event.  Use Facebook for Promoting it.

#2  In the Promotions Group, let people know that you are organising, and that your electorate is alive and kicking.

#3  Create a new Google Calendar for your ANFS events.  Make this calendar visible to the public.  Send the admin on this site a private message with the iCal link to that calendar so that your events start showing up in the main ANFS calendar.  Then the whole world will be able to see your event!

#4  If you haven’t done already, call a meeting in the next couple of days for your organisers to get together and start planning the J14 action. After your meeting, list your needs in the Needs Group.

#5  Go to the Poster page and pick the kind of posters and flyers you would like.  Modify the graphics there, or contact @keyweekat to get posters and flyers designed for your event.

If you have any cool posters you have made that you would like to share, give them to @keyweekat and also, post them in the Graphic Arts Group.   Invite your artists to join that group, so others can work with them as well.

Note: If you are creating posters to be shared, please create a version without local details, so that other groups can use your posters by putting local details on top.

#6  Have a look at the Specialist Groups page and see if you would like to get involved in other areas, like Entertainment, Writing and so on.

#7  If you have any press releases you have written about your event, our Media Team would be happy to help release them – we have an extensive list of media outlets we release to.  Note, please Print Ready PR’s only – we cannot do writing, editing, formatting etc.  Send a message to @mins or @julz.

#8 Promote this site.  This site offers many unique features, including private work groups, and a Universal Calendar that is visible to everyone, not just your Facebook friends.  This site allows you to work directly with cool people with specialist skills from all over the country, without the distractions and the trolling comments on Facebook.  If you’re serious about organising, this is a quiet place to work and get stuff done.  Then, when you’re organised, promote to people on Facebook to drive them to your event.

#9 Make sure that every Electorate in the country has a protest happening.  Check in with your friends in neighboring electorates.  Even if right now you’ve only got 3 people and a dog signed up, make sure we know about it.  We don’t want to miss even one Electorate.

#10 Finally, do you live in the city, far from your family in the country?  Send them a link to this site and let them know what you are doing!

Remember, the more people join this site, the more synergies, opportunities, skills and resources we have available for this campaign.  We share and share alike and help each other.  In the process, we do a lot of good, we make new friends, and have a lot of fun in the process!

Send the Government (and especially your MP) a protest message they will NEVER forget!

Help us coordinate a simultaneous protest in every Electorate in New Zealand on July 14.  To the best of our knowledge, this has never been done in the whole history of the country. Let’s make this a first.

Join with us in making New Zealand history!
